Use a water-based table tennis adhesive and follow its instructions to fit a rubber sheet. Prepare the blade, coat the blade and sponge, dry as directed, align and roll the sheet into place, then trim. Drying times and coats vary by glue.
What equipment should you prepare?
- A blade and one uncut rubber sheet per side being fitted.
- Water-based table tennis glue and its applicator.
- A roller, stable work surface, cutting mat and suitable scissors or cutter.
- Optional edge tape and a clean protective sheet for storage.
We do not currently sell glue separately. Choose an adhesive intended for table tennis, rather than a general household glue. Read the glue maker's instructions before you start. Keep glue and cutting tools away from children.
1. How do you prepare the blade?
Remove any edge tape and peel the old sheet slowly from the side. Remove loose glue residue without digging into the wood. If the face is damaged or splintering, address that before fitting a new sheet.
Keep a new sheet uncut until it is aligned on the blade. If reusing an already-cut sheet, check that it covers the blade correctly without stretching it.
2. How should you apply the glue?
Spread the adhesive evenly on the sponge side and blade surface. Use the amount and number of coats the glue maker specifies. Keep the playing face clean. Avoid puddles or raised glue ridges that could leave uneven contact.
3. When can you join the surfaces?
Wait until each coat reaches the drying stage in the instructions. Butterfly's fitting method dries both surfaces before joining them. One waiting time will not suit every adhesive or room.
If the coating is still wet, wait. Do not attach the sheet early to meet a planned start time for a match.
4. How do you align and roll the sheet?
Position the rubber's lower edge just above the handle, then roll away from the handle with even pressure. Keep the sheet flat and avoid trapping air. Do not pull it longer or wider to make it fit.
5. How do you trim it?
Use the blade outline as a guide on a stable cutting surface. Keep fingers out of the tool's path and avoid cutting into the wood. Repeat the method for the other side if needed. Follow the adhesive's final waiting instructions before play.
What if the edge lifts or the sheet looks uneven?
Check for loose residue, uneven coating or a step missed in the glue instructions. Do not stretch the sheet or add glue to its playing face to hide a poor fit. If you are unsure, stop and ask someone experienced in racket assembly to inspect it.
Can Powerkraft fit the rubbers for you?
Yes. Add the blade, the sheets you need and our paid rubber gluing service in the same order. Choose one or two sides on the service page and check its current price. Fitting is a paid add-on, and customised or assembled rackets cannot be returned; read the return policy.
For the source method, see Butterfly's replacement instructions. To plan an order, read the custom-racket checklist and rubber types explained. Browse blades, rubbers or equipment by category.
